I’m Sarah McCall, The Scatterbrain Shepherd, living in West Otago. Perhaps you know me as the Author Granny Mac NZ?
Down here in the South, we believe in keeping things real and talking straight.
Whether your brain is screaming in neutral and you’ve no idea how to get into gear, a mate scratching their head trying to understand, a teacher “wrangling” a whole class, an employer seeking to bring unity within an absolutely diverse workforce, or a community leader wanting to do right by everyone – you’ve landed in the right paddock.
Forget the jargon and those “viral” ideas that are about as useful as a chocolate teapot on a frosty morning. We’ll use Kiwi ingenuity and a bit of creative thinking to:
Get Clear as a Bell: Understand ADHD without all the fluff.
Harness Your Energy: Like a good sheepdog, (no, I’m not calling you a dog, but my upcoming book “Roxy’s Best Day Ever” IS about a sheepdog with ADHD), so let’s put that go-get-’em spirit to work.
Calm the Jitters: Find your inner peace, even when things feel a bit unnerving.
Sort the Flock: Get some order and manageability into the day.
Embrace Your Unique Fleece: Shed the shame and see the true value in who you are.
nor a box to squash someone into. It is a difference in emotion or attention regulation, not a mood, nor a choice.
misunderstood/misplaced. It is out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, enthusiasm, energy, loads of focused attention which is motivated by interest not need – nothing to be afraid of here.
usually have more than one thing going on and have challenges in “Executive Function”, so we need more structure, not less.
doesn’t fix us – it can help, but it isn’t the only answer for supported living, any more than Insulin is the only answer in supporting those with diabetes – exercise, coffee and diet help a lot too.
As does understanding, education and lots of conversations. We got this!!
is a starting point, providing understanding so you can begin to dip into the incredible wonder of ADHD. (It’s true! There is a vast canvas waiting for you to create YOUR Masterpiece upon.)
“You have such a unique way of teaching kids. Why aren’t you teaching professionally?”
“My child was struggling, and I didn’t know what to do. Using your Cecil’s Yarns™ principles, you equipped me to be able to engage with my child in a meaningful manner and empowered me to help resolve issues that were a train wreck waiting to happen. Thank you for just “getting me”, not judging me and then helping us to reconnect and get on with our lives.”
“You have such a weird sense of humour! Thanks for teaching me word games. I feel better now I’ve got words to say what’s happening.”
“She sees 18, I see 81. We’re both right, we just have different perspectives! It takes the stress out of our relationship, now that I understand how she processes things.”
"I had decided not to go. But what you said to me on the street, when you didn't even know me, made a real difference. You saw I was struggling and you helped. Coming to the event helped me see things about myself I hadn't understood before. Thank you."
"You have a unique ability to distill complexity and facilitate a highly productive dialogue. This enabled us to achieve clear consensus. Your engaging style and integrity were instrumental in aligning our team and driving a unified vision for the outcome. A truly impactful and valuable engagement. A testament to your professionalism and effective approach."
